The freedom to be authentically me.

What hardships have you endured that you feel have made you stronger?

A difficult childhood with a mentally ill parent.

What's your favorite thing you have checked off your bucket list?

Living alone in an apartment in New York.

​What is your idea of perfect happiness?

The opportunity to decide daily who to be.

​What is your most treasured possession?

At one point in my life I probably would have chosen a piece of jewelry. But now, I believe that any material riches are meaningless so my cat, Medea–even though more than likely she possesses me.

​What advice would you give your younger self?

Resist conformity.

What do you consider your greatest achievement?

Even though I was not a traditional mom and I’ll never be a traditional grandma, my four children are my greatest achievement.

If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?

My insecurities.

What is your greatest extravagance?

The artwork I’ve collected over the years.

My empathy.
