Mollie Whisler

What is the best thing about being your age?

All the experiences I have had leading up to now.

What hardships have you endured that you feel have made you stronger?

This one was really hard to answer - and it took a long discussion with my husband to figure out how to answer. I don't experience hardships the way most people do. I am not a Pollyanna, but I do try to see the good in the situations I find myself in. This way I am not beat down by what life hands me.

(Child in the ER - grab the stuffy and go. Evacuate due to fire - just another day - get a hotel and see what happens, Mother in the hospital at the same time as the fire evacuation. Sure why not - just take it one day at a time.)

What do I consider my greatest achievement?

Successfully raising my children to be strong, independent, thoughtful and giving humans.

What is your favorite thing you have checked off your bucket list?

Traveled! And, I will continue to travel as soon as they let us out of the country.

What is your idea of perfect happiness?

A lazy day with nothing on the agenda. Where you can turn off the mental alarm clock and sleep until your body says get up. Then enjoy a good book or a favorite TV show.

If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?

To remember to put myself first sometimes.

What is your most treasured possession?

My husband and children including the fur covered ones! Of course. After that - a signed copy of The Wrinkle In Time autographed during a lively conversation with Ms. L'Engle back in the 80's and a piece of the Berlin Wall chipped by my hand in January 1990.

What is a trait you are most proud of?

My compassion and loving nature.

What do you most value in your friends?

Their unwavering support! From flowers and texts on a down day to surprise gatherings and giggles. Including things like airport layover "kidnappings"to a nearby restaurant just for dinner and drinks between flights.

what is your greatest extravagance?

BOOKS! I can never have too many books.

What is your motto or favorite quote?

"Don't get strung out by the way I look."

"Don't judge a book by its cover."

Words of wisdom for younger women

Take the chances - roll the dice! Don't play it safe.

Additional Thoughts...

When trying something new and you are scared and want to turn back to what you "know" - that is the time to step forward, take charge, and plow ahead into the unknown and grow.
