50 OVER 50 PROJECT FOR 2021
"Life is a journey. Try to grasp as much of it as you can and experience it to the fullest."
What is the best thing about being your age?
I love being in my 60s. I have the freedom to do what I want to with the confidence, wisdom, and time to see my dreams through.
What hardships have you endured that you feel have made you stronger?
I am a 12-year breast cancer survivor and had a difficult journey. I’m proud to say I’m officially cured and more positives than negatives came out of the experience. I give back by volunteering for a foundation that supports single mothers going through cancer treatment.
I also lost my husband of 32 years suddenly and traumatically three years ago. I’ve learned every day is a gift and there is always something to be grateful for. And finally to never give up hope!
What do I consider my greatest achievement?
While I am proud of putting myself through school, maintaining my career, being able to help many people, and being married for 32 years until my husband passed away – my greatest achievement is having and raising my three children.
What is your favorite thing you have checked off your bucket list?
I went to Europe and found my grandmother’s old house in a small village near Budapest. That’s where I saw firsthand the legacy of strong women I come from.
What is your idea of perfect happiness?
Spending the day with my children in my garden.
What is a trait you are most proud of?
My caring and nurturing nature, my courage, and resilience.
What is your most treasured possession?
My children’s photos and my wedding rings.
What advice would you give your younger self?
Recognize and embrace your strengths and acknowledge your self-confidence. Also learn to take as good care of yourself as you do others.
What is your motto or favorite quote?
"We must let go of the life we have planned, so as to except the one that is waiting for us." – Joseph Campbell
"Tell me, What is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?"
– Mary Oliver
"Each connection you make is one step further toward world peace." – Me
Words of wisdom for younger women
Life is a journey. Try to grasp as much of it as you can and experience it to the fullest. Make connections with as many people, and as deeply, as you can.
