What is the best thing about being your age?

Best thing about being over 50 is the self-confidence to forge my own path regardless of the naysayers.

What hardships have you endured that you feel have made you stronger?

The loss of family and friends has made me appreciate each and every day and never take anything or anyone for granted. Whenever I start to doubt myself, I can hear my late father, Lee Faraola, telling me to “pay attention.” He always encouraged me to not to hesitate and have “life-work” balance, do the fun thing that I may be contemplating whether it is a big exotic trip or just an impromptu afternoon off at Seabright Beach and to be true to my nautical roots.

I was lucky enough to have another powerful influence in my mentor and business partner, Harriet Deck. She showed me how to master real estate with grace, humor and precision while always trying to contribute to the betterment of the unique community that is Santa Cruz.

I have had several very special friends pass away; I like to think of them as always cheering me on, reminding me to take time out to laugh, travel, work and play hard.

What is your idea of perfect happiness?

what is your greatest extravagance?

Recently I remodeled a Seabright beach home, a family home where I lived when I was born. It had many modifications through the years but the current metamorphosis is the best yet and fits our family. I love improving things while maintaining the Santa Cruz history and it is my footprint as a fifth-generation member of an Italian Fishing Family (father) and local roots.

What is your most treasured possession? My relationships and personal connections are my ANCHORS; my husband David, my mom and family, my FRIENDS and my cherished experiences. I am looking forward to the ones that are yet to come.

what do you consider your greatest achievement?

Owning Schooner Realty in Santa Cruz, California..

If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?

I would love to perfect the life-work balance, put down the phone on vacation, etc.,…but call me...LOL!

What do you most value in your friends?

I have the very best, most amazing supportive friends that I sincerely cherish. They are childhood friends, clients who have become friends, real estate friends, international friends, family friends.

What advice would you give your younger self?

Be. Here. Now. Pay Attention. Don’t Panic. Just Keep swimming. Breathe. Cry. Don’t Look back. Trust. LOVE!

Words of wisdom for younger women

1. Wear sunscreen.

2. You look gorgeous now, just the way you are.

3. Be kind to yourself. I would heed my own advice about prioritizing self-care; I tend to veer into being a workaholic. I always strive to provide the best experience for the people I work with, providing a bespoke, individualized service. As an independent business owner, this is crucial. As a native Santa Cruzan, I have to show the welcoming attitude we are known for.
