HOW IT WORKS IN FOUR EASY STEPS:

PLANNING & DESIGNING YOUR SESSION

The first step in planning your portrait session is an in-person design consultation, where we will discuss how you want to be photographed, go through examples of different types of images to pinpoint what you like and how to format our session. We will also review the pricing and product menu. When you schedule your session, the session fee will be billed as a non-refundable deposit for your photo shoot day.

Consultations take place at our studio in Watsonville, California, and can last between 30 to 60 minutes.  Phone or video consultations are also available to fit your schedule.

PREPARING FOR YOUR SESSION

1. WARDROBE:

After we have finalized our concept for the photo session and set a shoot date, it's an ideal time for you to gather garments you'd like to wear to make your session super fabulous!

Women:

- Consider borrowing something fancy from friends or family, shopping in vintage boutiques or using renttherunway.com.

- Bring a strapless bra + matching no-seam panty in nude, white and/or black, depending on what you are wearing.

- A casual outfit, such as a pair of your favorite jeans, a tank top or shirt with a v-neckline, and any jackets/coats you love.

- Any gowns, lingerie, or vintage items you may have to make your session unique.

- Choose necklines that are attractive for your facial type....V-neck, crew neck, etc.

- Stay away from white clothing – it is very contrasty/harsh under the studio lights.

- Stay away from heavy patterned or striped clothing.

Men:

- Gather garments you'd like to wear– casual, fancy…whatever you would prefer, or that we may have discussed beforehand.

- Choose necklines that are attractive for your facial type....V-neck, crew neck, etc.

- Stay away from white clothing – it is very contrasty/harsh under the studio lights.

- Stay away from heavy patterned or striped clothing.

- Since we may shoot 3/4 shots, be aware of what pants, belt, and even shoes that  may show up in the photo.

2. SKIN:

- If you are not having a makeover at the studio, please come with your makeup done.

STUDIO MAKEOVER

If you are having a studio makeover:

- Exfoliate your skin the morning of your shoot (try granulated sugar and freshly squeezed lemon). If you have never done this before DO NOT do it the day before your shoot- don't want your skin to be too red.

- Come to the studio with your skin completely clean and free of all cosmetics – only moisturizer.

- Please Do NOT tan or get a spray tan - this will not photograph well.

- Please avoid the sun for at least 2 weeks prior to your shoot.

- Have your eyebrows and any facial hair groomed a few days before your shoot.

3. HAIR:

 - Your hair should be styled as you would like it to be in the photographs.

STUDIO MAKEOVER

If you are having a studio makeover including hair:

- Your hair should be clean and completely dry.

- Please make sure that your roots have been touched up prior to the session.

- Do not straighten your hair or use any product unless we have discussed it during your consultation.

- If you are considering changing your hair, let us know so we can be sure it is still in alignment with your session concept.

4. NAILS:

We love hands in portraits, so we suggest getting a manicure (and pedicure).

- Please do not paint your nails, or choose a clear/blush color. We don't want your nails to clash with your outfit or takeaway from your face.

PLEASE LET US KNOW IF YOU HAVE ANY SKIN ALLERGIES PRIOR TO THE SESSION.

DAY OF YOUR SESSION

1. HAIR & MAKE-UP

Your morning will begin with professional hair and make-up at the studio.  This can take upward of 2 hours, so please be on time.

2. SESSION LENGTH

Depending on your booked session and number of wardrobe changes planned, your session will usually last about 2 hours.

3. FOOD & BEVERAGES

During your session enjoy a glass of wine, soft drinks, sparkling water, tea or coffee. We will have assorted snacks on hand.  Please let us know if you prefer something special or have dietary restrictions.

4. SCHEDULING YOUR REVEAL APPOINTMENT

After your session we will schedule a time for you to return to the studio for your reveal and ordering appointment.

 - Contemporary Portrait sessions are usually revealed within 7 to 10 days of your session.

 - Headshots and Personal Branding are usually revealed in an online gallery 24-36 hours after your session.

Note: We request that you bring no more than one friend or family member to your session to watch. This day is for you, and we don't want any distractions or for you to feel self-conscious.

Cancellation & No-Shows: If you are unable to make your appointment, please give us at least a 48 hours notice. Session fees are non-refundable. We allow one reschedule within 6 months of your scheduled appointment. If you do not call or show-up for your session the fee is non-refundable.
