PROFESSION: Plastic Surgeon
What is the best thing about being your age?
Over time, I have learned that not only that everything happens for a reason, but also it is your perspective that allows it to have a reason for growth. If one sticks to a plan, it doesn't work out as expected, then spends their whole life in regret....well, that's a shame. It's good to set goals and aspirations. However, if they don't occur there is a reason and I have found that I cherish the road that I have walked whether or not planned.
What hardships have you endured that you feel have made you stronger?
There usually is that one defining event that changes you forever. Yes, there are many but there is that one. My father suddenly died when I was 17 years old. He and I were very close and buddies. To date, he is the only energy that truly gave me comfort with his ways, voice, smell and attitude. Losing him was extremely tragic but my life went on and those next 5 years were not easy but I survived. I learned a lot about people, some good and some bad, but it taught me to always have faith and keep things in perspective.
What's your favorite thing you have checked off your bucket list?
Skydiving I would say Military duty which started off as bucket list but I am still, technically, in the Reserves. Swearing into the Navy in 2016 at 48 y/o and most notably working with the Marine Corps was one of the best things in my adult life.
What is your idea of perfect happiness?
Good health and serenity.
What is your most treasured possession?
My Doberman and pets in general. I do have my cats, Humphrey and Meisha + my parakeets, Denny and Dina. On the more esoteric level, my most treasured possession is my faith.
What advice would you give your younger self?
Enjoy the journey and don't get so caught up in what other's say or do. Always keep the energy positive and don't give the bad ANY energy. Block it.
What do you consider your greatest achievement?
Taking care of my mother at all levels of her life culminating into her major stroke and holding her hand as she passed.
If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
Work more on not being so ENTJ, but that has worked so far in my life.
What is your greatest extravagance?
Canyon Ranch in Tuscon.
What is a trait you are most proud of?
Physically, my eyes. Spiritually, my faith. Wellness, my resilience.
What is your motto or favorite quote?
Can't say it...it involves the F-word.
Words of wisdom to younger women
Don't stay stuck in a pattern. Consistency is good. Stability is good. But, everything in life is a balance and you will change. It's up to you to see it. And...don't get in other people's business.
Additional thoughts on aging...
Aging is an attitude, as they say. It's not plastic surgery. It's about living in the moment, learning from the past, and looking forward to the future. The core values are set but we are always evolving and learning.
