profession: Registered Nurse

What is the best thing about being your age?

Alive! Not a flippant statement. Every breath, moment, day is a blessing.

What hardships have you endured that you feel have made you stronger?

For about thirty years I worked as a direct care nurse in an adult Intensive Care Unit (ICU). That was not easy but it was a privilege to engage and serve people in that environment. Intense authentic relationships build character and insight. During that time, with the total support of my husband, I raised two sons and eventually completed graduate studies at UCSF.  And kept riding horses.

What's your favorite thing you have checked off your bucket list?

Ridden down many long and lovely trails on a really good horse.

What is your idea of perfect happiness?

Lounging in Utopia.

What is a trait you are most proud of?

What is your most treasured possession?

Health, peace-of-mind.

What do you consider your greatest achievement?

Maintaining some balance between work and everything else. Holding hope!

What do you most value in your friends?

Honesty, compassion, intelligence, and a sense of humor.

If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?

Singing voice.  A pleasant one would be nice!

what is your greatest extravagance?

Horses, always.

What advice would you give your younger self?

Seek the advice of trusted elders more frequently and listen closely. Consider their insights when making difficult decisions.

What is your motto or favorite quote?

“Then the delight, when the courage kindled,

And out you stepped onto new ground,

Your eyes young again with energy and dream,

A path of plenitude opening before you.” - John O’Donohue

Words of wisdom for younger women

Be kind.

Forgive yourself perceived mistakes.

Maintain a connection to nature.

Nurture a passion beyond career and family.
