"Don’t let others’ bad treatment of you define how you see yourself. That is a reflection of them, not you.

You are worthy of being shown kindness and respect. You are lovable just as you are."

AGE: 63

PROFESSION: Business Analyst

What is the best thing about being your age?

Being comfortable talking to people about life experiences.

What hardships have you endured that you feel have made you stronger?

Having survived childhood trauma and spending years in therapy has taught me that my fears and choices as an adult were a result of that trauma. Understanding that relationship and knowing that my circumstances are different now gives me the freedom to make different, healthier choices.

What's your favorite thing you have checked off your bucket list?

Seeing whales in the ocean.

What is your idea of perfect happiness?

Finding acceptance and comfort in healthy relationships where there is kindness, respect, trust, loyalty, and laughter. Oh, and a dog. Having a dog has provided me with happiness.

What is your most treasured possession?

The pets who are or have been a part of my life.

What do you consider your greatest achievement?

I am the first person in my immediate family to get a college degree.

If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?

Self acceptance. Things change as you get older. It may be harder to lose weight, your skin changes, your hair may get thinner, but it’s okay. You are not the only one going through these changes and there are options out there.

What advice would you give your younger self?

Change is possible. It may not be easy, but with perseverance you can accomplish your goals.

Words of wisdom to younger women

Don’t let others’ bad treatment of you define how you see yourself. Their bad treatment is a reflection of them, not you. You are worthy of being shown kindness and respect. You are lovable just as you are.
