"Aging isn't losing anything, but rather gaining perspective, strength and a deeper appreciation for life."

AGE: 65

PROFESSION: Retired from non-profit

What is the best thing about being your age?

Being a 65-year-old woman is a unique and rich experience, filled with both challenges and delight. I have collected a lifetime of insight, perspective and many different types of experiences. At this point in my life, I truly know myself and have gathered wisdom from life's experiences and learned what really matters. It is a sense of calmness that comes with knowing who I am and what brings me happiness.

What hardships have you endured that you feel have made you stronger?

Being a diabetic is a challenging condition that affects many aspects of life, both physically and emotionally. It is not just about managing blood sugar, it is a constant balancing act that affects every part of daily life.

What is your idea of perfect happiness?

My idea of perfect happiness is a life filled with peace, love and purpose. It is feeling content and knowing you are exactly where you are meant to be.

What advice would you give your younger self?

You are enough! Don't seek out validation from others, as your worth is not defined by them. Speak up for yourself, your voice matters. Don't rush through life and enjoy the present. You are stronger than you think. Take care of your body by eating well, exercising and resting. You don't have to have it all figured out. Life is random and that is okay. The best things in life come from stepping outside your comfort zone and taking risks.

What do you consider your greatest achievement?

Raising strong, kind, independent and responsible men despite the odds. Raising two sons as a single parent was an incredible journey filled with challenges, sacrifices and profound results. The true reward comes when you see them make good choices, treat others with kindness and empathy, succeed, not only in their careers, but also as good men, partners and possibly fathers themselves.

What is a trait you are most proud of?

Empathy is a beautiful and powerful trait I am most proud of. I not only understand other's feelings, but also genuinely care about other's well being. I connect deeply with people, offer comfort in difficult times and celebrate in good times.

What is your motto or favorite quote?

"Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind."

Words of wisdom to younger women

Protect your peace and set boundaries. Say no when needed and surround yourself with positive people. Don't rush to the next milestone, happiness is in the present. Love yourself first, and never settle out of fear of being alone. You are enough, never let the world make you feel otherwise!

Additional thoughts...

Aging as a woman is a journey of growth. It's a powerful transformation, one where confidence deepens, priorities become clearer, and self-worth no longer relies on external validation. It is knowing that beauty isn't just for the young, but in resilience, kindness, and the stories you carry. It's the freedom to care less about what others think and more what truly bring you joy and happiness. Aging isn't losing anything, but rather gaining perspective, strength and a deeper appreciation for life.
