Germaine Gaudet

"Learn how to manage your time, trust your gut, focus on what’s important and learn how to say no, or at least, not yet!"
AGE: 68
PROFESSION: I was a technology executive, and for the last 8 years I have been an actress and executive producer.
What is the best thing about being your age?
At this stage in life, I’ve found the wisdom to accept the things I cannot change and the courage to change the things I can. Yes, I live by the serenity prayer. I accept that I am aging: that is not within my control, but aging gracefully, remaining healthy, living a life full of gratitude and being a person who is joyful so that younger people want to be a part of your world, that is all within my control and I practice this every day.
What hardships have you endured that you feel have made you stronger?
I had a tough beginning with poverty, but always so much love and protection from my parents. Moving into my career in technology, while financially lucrative was difficult because of the misogynistic environment, and then as I got older, ageism was rampant. Personally, my divorce, losing my father fairly young and pregnancies that didn’t come to term were devasting blows.
What's your favorite thing you have checked off your bucket list?
Finding a loving partner and reaching financial independence.
What is your idea of perfect happiness?
Time with my family and a glorious day in nature hiking, golfing or skiing with my husband.
What advice would you give your younger self?
Start your own business. Trust your gut. Surround yourself with good people who truly have your back. Take more time to smell the roses.
What do you consider your greatest achievement?
Being able to care for my aging mother and producing my own film telling the story that I wanted to put out in the universe.
If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
I would not have arthritis, and I’m a work in progress in being a good listener.
What is your greatest extravagance?
My car and lotions and potions.
What is a trait you are most proud of?
I’m generous, loyal and vivacious.
What is your motto or favorite quote?
God grant me the serenity To accept the things I cannot change,
Courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.
Words of wisdom to younger women
Learn how to manage your time, trust your gut, focus on what’s important and learn how to say no, or at least, not yet!
Additional thoughts on aging...
It’s a privilege to age and many never get the chance. Cherish every moment on this earth.
