What is the best thing about being your age?

Nothing.

What hardships have you endured that you feel have made you stronger?

Generally, I've lived a particularly privileged life. The negative things happened in my childhood and became part of who I am, what I believe and what I remember. Everything since are events that everyone encounters like death, illness, etc. I just dealt with it.

 

What's your favorite thing you have checked off your bucket list?

A couple of trips. One to Svalbard and one up the Inca Trail to Machu Pichu. And most importantly, having a daughter that I have. She is strong, creative, resilient, intelligent, unusual.

What is your idea of perfect happiness?

Having the energy and health, and the money, to explore new places and do new things.

What is your most treasured possession?

Aside from the livings ones, if you can call them possessions, none matters that much. But, if I dive into the actual things that are mine, I treasure a stone I brought back from Svalbard, my art supplies and silkscreen tools, the last piece of a broken mirror I received from my parents when I was 6, a watch from my mother.

What do you consider your greatest achievement?

Having been able to develop many talents and interests. I'm (privately) proud to be broad.

What is a trait you are most proud of?

Generosity.

What is your greatest extravagance?

Travel was my greatest extravagance.

If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?

Physical appearance and health.

What advice would you give your younger self?

Be bolder and take more risks.

Build your core strength by studying, reading, observing. Trust you instincts. Don't be materialistic. Be generous. Don't let someone else dominate you.

Additional thoughts on aging...

It sucks. There is nothing good about it and it will take a lot to convince me otherwise.
