What is the best thing about being your age?
I'm living my life the way I want to live it. Traveling and working with just the right balance until full retirement.
What hardships have you endured that you feel have made you stronger?
Greif! Living through the loss of my brother, parents, friends, and extended family members, as well as the loss of my thirty-two year marriage, has taught me that each time my heart breaks and mends, it becomes stronger. Since my marriage ended suddenly, nearly a year ago, I've worked at making my body, mind and spirit stronger than I'd imagined it could be. I've learned to ask for help from my family, friends, coworkers, therapist and personal trainer. We don't have to get through this life on our own to be considered strong and capable.
What's your favorite thing you have checked off your bucket list?
Swimming under a waterfall in a tropical setting.
What is your idea of perfect happiness?
Being outside in nature. Could be the beach, the forest, on a mountain, in a garden, it doesn't really matter but a bonus is when it's somewhere new.
What is your most treasured possession?
A beautiful walnut wood mantel clock designed and made by my dad.
What do you consider your greatest achievement?
It may sound a bit cliche, but raising two beautiful humans with the help of their dad and our families.
What is a trait you are most proud of?
Empathy.
What is your greatest extravagance?
First class plane tickets on occasion.
What advice would you give your younger self?
Don't have regrets but learn from your experiences.
What is your motto or favorite quote?
"Each of us has the power and responsibility to become a rainbow in the clouds." - Maya Angelou
Words of wisdom to younger women...
Take the time, effort and compassion to build your village. Those people that know they can count on you, will be the source of your greatest support in your times of need.
Additional thoughts...
Aging happily is about resilience. For most of us, life is not exactly as we want it or picture it . Having the toughness to bounce back when we get knocked around is what keeps us moving forward.
